Shian Law is a Melbourne-based performance artist who regularly works as a performer, collaborator, choreographer in the context of dance, trans-media performance and live-art intervention.
Shian has worked closely with choreographer/mentor Jo Lloyd and trans-media artist Thea Baumann (Metaverse Makeovers, APHIDS), as well as Phillip Adams, Deanne Butterworth, Mikala Dwyer and Brooke Amity Stamp. He has performed and presented works at Shanghai JUE Festival, International Symposium of Electronic Art, Melbourne International Festival, Dance Massive Festival, MONA FOMA, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Next Wave Festival, Pieces for Small Spaces Lucy Guerin Inc and Critical Path.
Shian received Melbourne Fringe Best Dance for Proximate Edifice, Dance Australia ‘Best New Work’ and the award for ‘Innovation in Dance’ (Judith Wright Centre) for BODY OBSCURE OBJECT respectively. He is a recipient of the Next Wave Kickstart, JUMP National Mentoring Program, Performance Space Stephen Cummins residency, Lucy Guerin Inc residency and Thousand Pound Bend residency.
Most recently, Shian has premiered his Next Wave Commission Personal Mythologies in Next Wave Festival 2014 in partnership with Arts House. He is currently developing two new works,Vanishing Point and PSYCHO, a project supported by Phillip Adams Balletlab.
Shian trained at the The Victorian College of the Arts.
